What is the definition of a trading day?

Modified on Mon, 6 Nov, 2023 at 5:14 AM

  • Typically the trading day, or trading session, for the majority of products permitted at TradeDay, runs from 5 pm CT, (the market open) until 4 pm CT (the market close) the next day.

--------

At the CME Group Exchange, the trading day is defined from the market open until the market close, and differs from product to product.

All Evaluation Challenge metrics are based on this trading day session.

For example, if you trade an ES contract on Sunday night after the open, and trade on Monday before the close, this is considered one trading day.

It is the trader’s responsibility to know when their market opens and closes, and if there are any breaks in this trading session.

Details of a product’s specific opening and closing times can be found in the product specification sheet on the CME website or linked from our Permitted Products FAQ.
